Waylon DeCoteau
Bismarck
Dr. DeCoteau joined the UND Center for Family Medicine residency program in 2024. He is an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and grew up primarily in Belcourt, North Dakota, on the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indian Reservation. He chose UND CFM for its strong community relationships, dedicated attendings, supportive colleagues, and the opportunity to serve the unique Native American population in Bismarck.
With a deep interest in community medicine, Dr. DeCoteau chose Family Medicine to gain the skills needed to serve rural communities across North Dakota. He values the personal relationships he builds with patients and is committed to providing comprehensive, culturally sensitive care. Motivated by a strong desire to help others, he plans to return home and contribute to the Indian Health Service unit that cared for him growing up.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. DeCoteau enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, hunting and fishing, going on family adventures, and playing video games.
